Coca-Cola VS Pepsi

The game of vending machine one-upsmanship between Coca-Cola and PepsiCo continues with Coke’s “Friendship Machine.”

The Coca-Cola Friendship Machine is simple. It’s a double size Coke vending machine that is so big and tall, you’ll need a friend to boost you up. But once you buy a soda, you’ll get two for the price of one. It’s the perfect machine for you and a friend. 


If you’re interested in Coke’s “Happiness Machine” viral video of 2010, which shows a Coke machine spitting out free soda and pizzas to a group of delighted students or in Coke’s “Happiness Truck” video that features a Coca-Cola truck giving out Cokes along with surfboards, beach toys and sunglasses go here.

PepsiCo responded to Coke’s experiments with a real-life vending mashine that let you gift free Pepsis to friends and strangers via a text message.

TOP 6 Guerilla Marketing Events.

Just what is guerilla marketing?  When a company takes to the streets to spread it’s message:  Whether you call it turbo-charged advertising or just an old-fashioned publicity stunt, these events create buzz and bring valuable PR to brands. 

1. Fast Lane – The Slide: Volkswagen PR
Want to live life in the fast lane? Volkswagen can help, and no, they don’t mean by buying a car – they installed a slide over a flight of stairs and challenged everyone to have fun in the “fast lane.”
Attention-grabbing and just plain fun, this PR event tied in perfectly with the advertising for the Polo GTI, which was “driven by fun”.


2. Super Glue Street Marketing
One super glue company used the old “coin stuck to the ground” trick to make their mark.
Clever use of a tried and tested practical joke – but for a bigger marketing impact they should have made better use of the branding opportunity.

Here’s one great example of a charity using skills to get a message across.
The Dirty Water Vending Machine employs that same great tactic used by Coca-Cola – turning everyday items on their head.  Not only did this turn heads, but also it featured an easy way to generate donations, raising much needed cash for the cause.

 

6. Ikea Guerilla Campaign: Making the Everyday a Little Better
The key to all the best guerilla marketing campaigns is the ability to put something out of context and make ordinary items extraordinary.  Ikea did this on a massive scale when they took to the streets of Manhattan in this stunt. Who would forget seeing one of these design interventions as they go about their everyday routines?
